in honour of Her Majesty's Diamond Jubilee.

1936 was the year that Great Britain had three kings. King George V died on 20th January, to be succeeded by Edward VIII (David), his oldest son.  However, David was in love with the twice divorced American woman Wallis Simpson, and his insistence on marrying her proved to be a problem for the monarchy. He locked horns with the Prime Minister (Stanley Baldwin), and the Archbishop of Canterbury (Cosmo Lang) but he lost his fight and had to abdicate the throne on 11th December leaving his younger brother Bertie to reluctantly became King George VI, the father of our present monarch.  During the crisis, the situation was managed by Queen Mary,  David & Bertie's mother, and this production is focused upon her efforts to save the Monarchy.
The play is set in the sitting room of marlborough House, London, Queen Mary's home.

The bar and refreshments are available before & after the show and during the interval.

------------------------------------------------------------Front of House staff needed:-

If acting is not for you, there are still plenty of other jobs that need to be done which are just as important to the productions.  For instance,   front of house duties such as welcoming the members of the audience and showing them to their seats, programme sales as well as helping with the bar and refreshments.

Please don't be afraid to offer to help, just contact a committee member, don't wait to be asked.

And don't forget that the St John's Players team also needs members to be involved behind the scenes with props, costumes, set building, lighting, sound and other technical aspects of the productions, have you got any of these skills you can offer?
