Welcome to
St John's Players,
Churchdown, Gloucestershire.

Please feel free to browse our pages and contact us if you want to know anything more about us.

 Our most recent production was

directed by John Knowles.

Set in the lounge of Marlborough House, Queen Mary’s home, in the autumn of 1936.  This was the year that Great Britain had three kings.
King George V died on 20th January, to be succeeded by Edward VIII (David), his oldest son.
However, David was in love with the twice divorced American woman Wallis Simpson, and his insistence on marrying her proved to be a problem for the monarchy.  He locked horns with the Prime Minister (Stanley Baldwin), and the Archbishop of Canterbury (Cosmo Lang) but he lost his fight and abdicated the throne on 11th December leaving his younger brother, Bertie, to reluctantly become King George VI.
During the crisis, the situation was managed by Queen Mary, David & Bertie's mother, and this production is focused upon her efforts to save the Monarchy.

This production was in honour of Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee.

NODA Acheivement Award

Our November 2011 production 'Bedroom Farce' won the NODA (South West Region) Acheivement award for our '3 in 1' set.
Congratulations go to Paul Gait and his team for the design & execution of this challenging project of getting three separate bedrooms, in different houses, onto one small stage.

While we enjoy a very hard-working small core of members, we would love to welcome newcomers!  Any Society thrives on new faces, new ideas and new challenges and a drama group such as ours can offer so much more than just “Strutting your stuff” on stage; it’s great to feel part of a team whether you’re on stage, back stage, out front welcoming the audience, selling programmes and refreshments.

Would you like to be part of our team? Some experience of drama is an advantage but so many people don’t realise what they can do until faced with the challenge, together with helpful training and advice.

Are you interested in joining us?  Then please contact our Secretary, Sue Ryder, on 01452 713952.  We will be pleased to meet you.
